HOW TO paint a rock

Prepare a Rock

Rocks are just about everywhere. On a walking trail, by the river, on a mountain, or even in your backyard!

  1. Choose a rock, preferably flat, smooth and easy to handle.

  2. Wash it and let it dry completely.

  3. Paint it with waterproof paint (glossy paint will look the best) and set it aside to dry. Meanwhile, choose a verse from the Bible.

  4. When the paint is dry, neatly applying thin strokes, paint your chosen verse with a thin paint brush.

Paint

If you paint the rock with a paint that is not meant to withstand harsh weather (sun, rain), be sure to apply one coat of clear nail polish on finished painted surfaces. Otherwise, make sure to use waterproof paint. We strongly recommend to use non-toxic paint!

Always double check your written work. Check to see that it doesn’t have any mistakes on it, such as misspelled words. If it does, simply correct it as best as you can.

Please write RocksForJesus.org somewhere on the rock. That way a person who finds your rock can go to this website and learn more about Jesus, how to get involved in spreading the Good News and/or leave a testimony.

Also, include “For You” somewhere on the rock, so that the person can freely take it, for it was meant to be for him/her.

Finding a place

We enjoy every step of the way to a finished rock. Weather it’s choosing one, finding a verse or painting it. But without any doubt, the most exciting time is when we send a rock on its journey! Here are a few tips that we find to be useful in distributing the rocks.

  1. When placing the rock, make sure that the side where it says “For You” is easily visible.

  2. It’s great to put them on walking trails, parks or side walks, where it’s hard to miss one.

  3. Always pray for Lord’s guidance in choosing just the right place for your rock.

  4. Do not place your rock on a private property.

  5. The most important step in all this effort is to pray for the person who finds this specific rock. Ask the Lord to bless the person who reads what is written on it. And that He directs this rock just to the right person.
